Note For Those With Small Engines

August 16, 2008 · 9 Comments

If you are like me, and don’t want to run your small engines with ethanol “enhanced” fuel…head to 65N, Exit 108.  There you will find a Nervous Charlies gas station that offers straight gasoline.  Ethanol is corrosive to aluminum parts, which virtually all mowers, weed-eates, blowers, edgers, trimmers, personal “massagers” etc contain.  I’m going today to fill up my dual tank Ford truck, plus my 30 gallon spare I keep, and siphon as i need it.

Good luck!

Oh, I thought this was, like , “Mack’s advice to the lovelorn”–my bad.

You can appreciate this, Mack. I was listening to the radio yesterday and the A.M. crew on one of the stations was taking calls from people whose partner, spouse or whatever had done them a “favor” and caused a problem. The “winner” was the guy who said his girlfriend took his ride to the gas station and filled it up–with diesel.

democommie, my husband accidentally filled our car up with diesel once. From empty. It was a weird set-up where the diesel was a 4th nozzle alongside the gasoline. Hilariously, the receipt abbreviated the purchase as “DIES.” Yep, it sure did. :)

    Dude …..

Just checking to see if you were paying attention…

Demo-In my experience, the Diesel pumps have a different sort of nozzle. I guess if one is distracted enough, or in need of more coffee…

Not only is ethanol corrosive, but it offers lower mileage (i.e. more consumer cost) than straight gasoline. Worse yet, the way it is produced in the U.S. (using corn as the raw material and fossil fuels in the processing) creates more pollution than it prevents and has helped drive up the global price of corn.
