The article is too long to post here, but find 10 minutes or so today and read this. Jane Smiley is never shrill, and enjoys a reputation as a tireless researcher. Forget what you think you know about how we got to be nearly powerless pieces in a huge corporate shell game. Thom Hartman, another writer and novelist I respect, wrote an entire book about this same subject.
